Despite progressive provisions in Zimbabwe's 2013 Constitution guaranteeing 50-50 gender equality, real-world data revealed a troubling regression: women’s representation in local government dropped by 3%. Hivos Zimbabwe’s Women Empowered for Leadership (WE4L) programme needed to uncover the hidden, structural obstacles behind this statistic. The challenge was clear: produce a compelling explainer that could educate donors, hold public institutions accountable, and inspire female candidates across rural and urban constituencies.

Catalyzing €1.1 Million in European Union Funding

The explainer video became the primary visual advocacy vehicle for Hivos throughout Southern Africa. Its remarkable clarity, artistic polish, and persuasive pedagogical structure directly contributed to the European Union approving a €1.1 million funding extension for subsequent multi-year regional women’s leadership programs.
