Nafuna Avenues: Turning African Urban Life into Playable Storyworlds

Nafuna Avenues is our internal IP: an isometric mobile game and animated series that explores African urban life through play and storytelling.

Concept & worldbuilding

We built Nafuna Avenues to reflect the vibrancy, hustle, and community of modern African cities. The world is designed to be instantly recognizable to anyone who has lived in cities like Harare, blending everyday realities with stylized, engaging narratives.

Game mechanics

We opted for an isometric perspective to allow players to manage environments and interact with multiple characters simultaneously. Core mechanics involve resource management, community building, and navigating social dynamics unique to our setting.

Visual style (animation, Moho, rigging)

The visual style heavily relies on robust 2D rigging in Moho, ensuring smooth character animations that feel lively without straining mobile performance. Our pipeline was built to scale from the game engine straight into broadcast animation.

How the series and game feed each other

The animated series expands on the backstories of the game's NPCs, while the game allows audiences to live within the episodes' environments. It's a transmedia approach designed to keep audiences engaged across platforms.

What we’re testing for future client work

Through Nafuna Avenues, we're actively prototyping new asset pipelines, exploring Godot integration, and testing AI-assisted workflow optimizations that we can directly apply to our commercial client campaigns.
