Purpose & Collaboration
Hivos partnered with Nafuna Africa to create a video advocating for gender equity in leadership. The project aimed to simplify complex systemic issues like unconscious bias and workplace inequality into an accessible narrative, encouraging viewers to become allies for change.
Creative Execution
The team developed a structured approach:
-
Scriptwriting: Translated research on leadership disparities into a clear, emotionally resonant script.
-
Storyboarding: Designed scenes balancing professional environments (boardrooms) with grassroots contexts to reflect diverse leadership challenges.
-
Animation: Used 2D animation to create relatable characters representing women across industries, emphasizing facial expressions and body language to convey subtle biases.
The video’s narrative arc moved from exposing barriers (e.g., interrupted speech in meetings) to celebrating triumphs, ending with a call to action for collective advocacy.
Impact & Legacy
Deployed as a multipurpose resource, the video:
-
Facilitated workshops on gender dynamics for educators and NGOs.
-
Supported conference panels discussing inclusive leadership.
-
Became a classroom tool for teaching equality principles.
By aligning Hivos’ advocacy goals with culturally resonant animation, the project demonstrated how visual storytelling could humanize abstract social issues and inspire tangible action.
